Slayers Universe 5.0 is now in beta mode. This is a development database - any content here is only up as a "proof of concept" for Mahou.

SU5.0 is built on top of MovableType, which was primarily created as a weblogging system. Mahou is the codename for the extensions to movabletype which allow it to save files in a hierarchial system, as opposed to the usual weblog standard of "0001.html", "0002.html", etc. Mahou handles the navigation between each section, and extends MovableType's capabilities to match those of Slayers Universe 4.0.

This would probably lead one to question why I'd even bothered to move to a new system, when it works the same as the old one. The main answer is MovableType. When Slayers Universe 5.0 is complete, I (theoretically) won't need to touch another line of code again. Everything will be tied into the MovableType interface, allowing content editors and me to edit the site online, rather than hacking HTML code. Altogether I hope this will be a good system, and will allow me to take a back seat to the maintenance of the site while other, more energetic fans can run the site. That's the goal, anyway.

Still left to do:

• Write new container plugins to loop through main sections and subsections.


• Rip out any extraneous plugins


• Figure out method for handling image files


• Check the Japanese language files


• Ensure HTML, CSS, accessbility validation


• Figure out the correct Japanese encoding


• Put in the section splash pages


• Buckle down on each section


• Import old content, one section at a time


• Figure out mirroring between slayers.burstflare.com and inverse.org
